ABOUT DIRECTORATE OF FORENSIC SCIENCES, MANIPUR

The State Forensic Science Laboratory, located at Pangei, Imphal East has been upgraded to a full-fledged Directorate since 8th April, 2022 directly under the control of Home Department overseen by a Commissioner to the Government of Manipur. The Directorate is headed by a Director assisted by Joint Director, along with Scientific Officers and Scientific Assistants within each division

The Directorate has been rendering consistent and vital services in the Criminal Justice System, with its services covering the state of Manipur and its neighbouring states, and several other Government organizations since 1988

Presently, the Directorate has 6(six) functional divisions namely, Ballistics, Biology / DNA, Chemistry, Documents, Toxicology and Photography. The Directorate has 4 (four) dedicated Mobile Forensic Units for attending crime scene in the Districts viz. - a) Mobile Forensic Unit-Imphal West, b) Mobile Forensic Unit - Bishnupur, c) Mobile Forensic Unit Imphal East, d) Mobile Forensic Unit - Thoubal. These 4(four) MFUs are attending crime scene for the remaining 12 Districts also. Expert teams from these units are rendering service by visiting Crime Scenes round the clock throughout the State. Besides the scientific divisions, the Administration is supported by a team of ministerial staffs.

OUR MISSION

The mission of the Directorate of Forensic Sciences is to apply scientific expertise to support the Criminal Justice system in solving and preventing crimes. This involves conducting thorough and objective analysis of physical evidences to provide accurate and reliable information for use in criminal investigations and legal proceedings. Furthermore, the laboratory seeks to maintain high standards of professionalism, integrity, and accuracy in its work, ensuring that the results of forensic analysis can be relied upon to deliver justice fairly and effectively. The goal is to contribute to public safety and confidence in the legal system by providing unbiased and scientifically sound evidence that aids in the resolution of criminal cases.
