The role and duties of this Directorate are multifaceted and critical to the criminal justice system. Some of the primary responsibilities include analysis of physical evidence collected at crime scenes, such as fingerprints, DNA, firearms, trace materials etc. This analysis is aimed at identifying and linking suspects to the crime, as well as providing evidentiary support for prosecutions. Additionally, the Directorate maintains and updates forensic databases, provide expert testimony in court, and offer training and technical assistance to law enforcement agencies.
